Floral Park NY's first church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, was built on land donated by John Lewis Childs.

Most Floral Park residents in the early years of the Village were Methodist. The first church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, was built on land donated by John Lewis Childs.

The building, a 32’ x 50’ wood structure, was dedicated in 1891. The interior was finished with yellow pine, had open trusses in the ceiling and could seat 350 persons. The belfry was 60’ high.

In 1927, a new colonial style church with stately pillars and a tower/steeple was built. It was constructed of framed steel and brick and stone and roofed with slate. The original church was incorporated into the center of the design of the new church, where it serves today as a chapel.

In 1939, the church was named the Floral Park Methodist Church and renamed the United Methodist Church of Floral Park in 1968.

The church parlor, chapel, classrooms, lower meeting room with a kitchen and stage are utilized by a theatre group, youth groups, a pre-school program, thrift shop, as well as church fellowship groups.
